Batch Tracking Quick Start

Batches are the primary way to track the brewing process through BrewLedger. New to BrewLedger? See Brewer's Quick Start for initial setup—locations, items, and receiving—before diving into batches.

Starting a Batch

On the Batches page, you can start a new batch either manually or through a template. When you create a batch, you select a milestone template—the checkpoints in a batch lifecycle that your brewery tracks. Every account comes with a default milestone template, but you can create and customize your own in Settings.

Ingredient Additions and Readings

On the batch detail page, you can add ingredient additions to your batch and take readings for tanks. Ingredient additions consume items from inventory (they flow through the Ledger), so your on-hand amounts stay accurate. Readings—gravity, temperature, pH, volume—let you track progress through each stage of the batch.

Split and Transfer

The Batches page lets you split or recombine batches across multiple tanks. Use the Split/Transfer button to move a batch from one vessel to another, split a batch between tanks, or combine batches. This keeps your tank assignments and volumes in sync as beer moves through your cellar.

Mark Production Complete

At the end of your batch, hit Mark Production Complete. That brings up the packaging menu. You can:

  • Transfer to a serving location or serving tank – For taproom or draft
  • Keg off – Package into kegs for distribution or storage
  • Can or bottle off – Package into cases

Each option records the packaging in the Ledger and updates your finished beer inventory accordingly.
